The 14th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS-2016) takes place in the Goborone International Conference Center, Botswana, from 21 to 23 November 2016

The 14th World Telecommunication /ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS-2016) takes place in the Goborone International Conference Center, Botswana, from 21 to 23 November 2016. Ministers, whose activity is connected with information and communication technologies (ICT), heads of the national regulatory authorities (NRAs) in the field of communications / ICT and heads of national statistical agencies, managers of international organizations, chief executive officers of private companies, as well as experts in the field of statistics take part in the event.

ITU base WTIS-2016 is the main international forum aimed at the discussion of statistical data in the field of ICT. Under WTIS-2016 high level discussions, including the Ministerial Round Table and Leaders’ Dialog, will take place. During the Ministerial Round Table progressive regulatory measures aimed at the coverage of the entire population with ICT advantages will be considered. Moreover, the further discussion of ICT ability to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Agenda Goals for the period up to 2030 will be organized.

Within Leaders’ Dialog the participants will discuss the effect of ICT on economy growth, employment and safety in the world.

Other sessions under WTIS-2016 will be devoted to the indicators measurements associated with cyber security, e-commerce and Big Data, achievements in the field of ICT services prices monitoring and the price affordability of the services.

During the event the results of the activities of the Expert Group on Telecommunication / ICT Indicators (EGTI) and of the Expert Group on Telecommunication / ICT Indicators in households (EGH) will be presented. The ITU Report “Measuring Information Society”, comprising the analysis of 160 economies of the world with regard to ICT development index (IDI), will be also presented.
