International event: Meeting of ITU Working Groups

From November 19 to 29, a meeting of Working Groups 5A, 5B and 5C of the ITU Radio Sector Research Commission 5 will be held in Geneva, Swiss Confederation. 

Specialists of the state enterprise "BelGIE" take part in the work. 

WP 5A considers issues related to research on electromagnetic compatibility of terrestrial mobile communication systems with the exception of IMT, revision and development of relevant ITU-R Recommendations and Reports. 

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN BELARUS, A HACKATHON ON CREATING STARTUPS FOR "SMART CITIES" AMONG STUDENTS OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

On October 8, 2024, an online Hackathon on creating startups for a smart city will be held. In our country, this is the first national-scale event organized for students of higher education institutions in order to create urban startups. 

The International Telecommunication Union has published an updated Radio Regulations, which will enter into force on January 1, 2025

This event was preceded by a rather long four-year preparatory research process conducted in the ITU Radiocommunication Sector, which ended with the 2023 World Radiocommunication Conference.

One of the key decisions for the Republic of Belarus taken at WRC-23 was the definition of the spectrum for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT), which will be crucial for expanding the possibility of establishing broadband connections and developing IMT technologies, also known as 4G, 5G and in the future − 6G.

Visit of the Minister of Information and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia to Belarus

On August 28-30, 2024, the Minister of Information and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia Dejan Ristic is visiting the Republic of Belarus. On August 28, Minister Konstantin Shulgan held talks with the Serbian delegation at the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus.

The development of information and communication infrastructure continues

The Ministry of Communications and Informatization, together with communications organizations, is actively working on the development of information and communications infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the state, business and citizens for modern telecommunications services. Currently, 167 operators have licenses in the field of telecommunications.

News of Belarusian postal service

📬 Today, there are more than 4 thousand postal facilities operating in the Republic of Belarus. 28 operators have a license to provide postal services.

🚀 New achievements in the field of postal services:
- Development of the National Postal Electronic System and electronic prepayment system.
- Services “Mobile Postman” and  Pre-postage processing.
- Expanding the Parcel lockers network

🌐 The National Postal Electronic System allows you to quickly forward letters with proof of delivery. Number of users - more than 5.4 thousand.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has published the ICT Development Index (IDI) for 2024

The Index measures progress towards the realization of the concept of universal and meaningful connections, defined as the possibility of equal access to the Internet for everyone, at an affordable price, anywhere and at any time with minimal costs.

The Republic of Belarus improved its position in seven indicators out of nine, with two indicators - the cost of fixed broadband basket (as a % of GNI per capita) and the number of people with a cell phone (%) - being the highest (100%).

Belarus is achieving success in ICT development

The Ministry of Communications, as a regulatory body, carries out wide-range work aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, which are within the competence of the Ministry.

The implementation of a number of activities on the construction and modernization of telecommunication networks, the construction of fiber-optic communication lines directly to the consumer, and the development of cellular mobile telecommunication networks contributed to the implementation of the tasks required to achieve the SDGs.

Belarus ranks 22nd in terms of access to ICT among 132 countries of the world

Belarus ranked 22nd in terms of access to ICT among 132 countries of the world according to the Global Innovation Index for 2023.

For reference: access to ICT is a composite index that assigns weight coefficients to 4 indicators (25% each):

Percentage of the population covered by mobile networks (at least 3G, at least LTE/WiMAX);

The number of mobile cellular subscribers per 100 residents;

International Internet bandwidth (bps) per Internet user;

The percentage of households with Internet access.
